Eagle in Cottonwood

Eagle in Cottonwood by David Montgomery

20 x 16

Every winter the San Luis Valley is visited by magnificent bald eagles from Canada. They can be seen sitting in most trees that are away from roads and especially along the Rio Grande. This fellow was perched at the turn of a river oxbow. I later found out that he (or she) was a regular at the calving grounds some 500 yards away, cleaning up the leavings of the birthings.
