Killandangan
28 x 22 This painting portrays the holy mountain of Ireland, called Croagh Patrick, with an ancient set stone in a megalithic-era complex on the tidal meadows of the Atlantic. I was attracted to the mountain because to me it resembled a classic pyramid from many angles around its base. It was originally a pre- Christian pilgrimage point honoring the sun god Lug. When the Catholics converted Ireland - they converted the mountain too. It has a chapel on its summit. Killadangan is the name of the stone alignment and ceremonial circle that seems to be connected to the holy mountain. Over the eons since their placement, the tidal ebb and flow has created enchanting interplays between the large limestones and brackish waterways that are the envy of any contemporary landscaper. I can't tell you how much fun we had exploring this ceremonial complex.
